All men are at risk of developing prostate cancer, but some men are more prone to it than others. The way we live and the way we take care of our bodies are things that we have to consider when doing a self assessment of the risk factors in our daily lives that could affect the probability of contracting the disease called prostate cancer.

Stress affects the biosynthesis of hormones that our bodies need to stave off prostate cancer. Hormonal imbalance can be caused by depression, work and family stress, and anxiety over finances or trivial matters. When we are stressed, our minds fail to function properly and we lose the ability to focus on our bodies. This type of mental stress will soon lead to excess, looking for artificial ways to improve one’s quality of life and looking for diversions that could mask the signs of being depressed. Psychological complications and risk factors of hormonal imbalance also include addictions.

A lot of sources point to improper nutrition and mineral deficiency as factors of prostate disorders. Zinc in particular is needed to maintain the size of the prostate and keeps it from getting enlarged. Excessive diet and alcohol drinking, as well as the lack of exercise, may lead to a decline in zinc levels.

A lot of excesses and nutritional disorders ultimately lead to obesity, diabetes and metabolic disorders, which causes the hormone balance to plummet. Uncontrolled diets high in trans fats and saturated fat cause hormonal problems that lead to prostate enlargement. Men can start by trimming off their excess calorie consumption by exercising, dieting and drinking mineral supplements. Another suggestion by experts is testosterone supplementation, which should be implemented under strict guidance from a health professional. Testosterone deficiency leads to enzyme production problems which contribute to the risk factors of prostate cancer.
